Kyanite is a blue mineral with long, blade-like crystals. One of the most unique characteristics of kyanite is that the hardness varies depending on the direction across the blades. The hardness is a 4 to 5 on Mohs scale along the blades and a 6 to 7 hardness across the blades. Kyanite has a white streak, a glassy to pearly luster and commonly occurs in metamorphic schist and gneiss rocks.
An information card with details on the mineral formation, characteristics, and uses is included. Typical samples sizes are generally 1-2 inches in length or width but can vary based on availability and natural crystal shape.
