Crinoid Stem - Delocrinus
Crinoids are sea animals related to the starfish, sea urchin, sea cucumber and brittle star. These echinoderms have rough, spiny surfaces and radial symmetry. Crinoid stems are the part of the animal that connect the animal to the ocean floor. The stem is made of disk-shaped pieces that are stacked to form the stem. Crinoid fossils have been dated as old as 490 million years some species are still alive today. Crinoids are the Missouri State Fossil. These samples are Pennsylvanian age and approximately one-inch long.
An information card with details on the rock formation, mineral content, characteristics, and uses is included. Typical samples sizes are generally 0.5 to 1.0 inches in length or width but can vary based on availability and natural formation.
