Halite is an evaporite mineral made of sodium chloride, or NaCl (table salt). The name halite comes from the Greek word for salt. Samples of halite are usually white to clear but may be other colors. Halite is a very soft mineral with a glassy luster and white streak. Typically, halite forms good crystal shapes with cubic cleavage, which means that the crystals naturally break into perfect cubes every time you break a sample.
An information card with details on the mineral formation, characteristics, and uses is included. Typical samples sizes are generally 1-2 inches in length or width but can vary based on availability and natural crystal shape.
