Rock Detectives Camp was a Fun, Successful Week

I spent last week teaching a Rock Detectives camp. We had a great week learning about minerals, rocks and the rock cycle. Monday through Thursday, we learned about a particular set of minerals, igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks or metamorphic rocks. The kids learned how to use a flow chart to identify the samples in a Mini Me Geology Deluxe kit then we performed experiments, had snacks and played a Rock Bingo tournament to end each day. On Friday, we learned about the Rock Cycle and played games including Rock Jeopardy!

The kids and I all had a great time. I hope we can have another Rock Detectives camp next summer. If you want to hold your own rock camp, send me an email at We will be publishing our rock camp and classroom guide for elementary teachers later this summer.
